Album Spotlight: Prospekt’s March EP (Coldplay)

So for some reason, I’m all over this album. Something about it… something raw, uncut, creative, catchy, but not mainstream brings me back over and over again. The lyrics are pure poetry, and the music is nothing short of enchanting. It stands above Viva la Vida in my opinion.
————————————————————————————————————————————-
1. Life in Technicolor ii: a full and better quality version of “Life in Technicolor,” the vintage-sounding opening track of Viva la Vida. Interesting rhythm and catchy
2. Postcard From Far Away: a classical piano melody serenades the listener. The first four bars could be the intro to another crazy beautiful song.
3. Glass of Water: maybe my favorite track of the record. Fast-paced, catchy, powerful chorus, with deep lyrical questioning and a nice, poetic ending. Definitely worth listening to.
4. Rainy Day: extremely creative, worthy of a chuckle. But interestingly enough, extremely cool. Children’s dance music-esque opening leads into captivating strings and catchy vocal melody. Although I don’t advocate the “I love it when you come over to my house” line that leads into the string section, the melody construction is great.
5. Prospekts March: really a cool track. Acoustic guitar and hymn-like song structure lead into beautiful french horns in harmony behind strong lyrics.
6. Lost (ft. Jay-Z): more of a gimmick than a track to be taken seriously. The rapping thing is cool and catchy, and I appreciate good spoken rhymes.. but it just doesn’t measure up to the creativity of the other tracks.
7. Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun Mix): A cool remix of the previous Viva la Vida track. Ambient, driving, and nice.
8. Now My Feet Won’t Touch the Ground: captivating, ambient pads and harmonies complement soaring falsetto and instrumentation. Really a nice track. A perfect, poetic ending to the EP journey.

As a whole, this album stands out as innovative, experimental, and honestly, one of the best Coldplay creations yet. It has become one of my favorite albums recently. Besides the Jay-Z track, there is never a dull moment. Worth every penny.
